A compliant withdrawal function, without the moving parts.
EU Withdrawal & Cancellations is a Shopify app by Spartahive. It gives EU shoppers a compliant online way to withdraw from a purchase or cancel a contract — a button, a declaration, and a durable-medium email receipt — while leaving the actual cancellation entirely in your hands.
What the app does
- Shows a withdrawal button. You place a theme app block on a storefront page and a block on the order-status page, so shoppers can reach the withdrawal function through the same online channel they used to order.
- Collects a declaration. The shopper fills in a short form — their name, email, order reference, and an optional message — to declare that they wish to withdraw or cancel.
- Confirms on a durable medium. The app records the request and emails an acknowledgement to the shopper, with a copy to your support inbox. The shopper keeps dated proof that the request was received.
- Hands it to your team. Your staff review the request and carry out the cancellation and refund through your normal process. The app does not touch the order.
The legal basis
The EU's Consumer Rights Directive has been amended by Directive (EU) 2023/2673, which introduces a new Article 11a. It requires traders who let consumers conclude contracts online to also provide an online withdrawal function — so a consumer can withdraw using the same kind of online means by which they entered into the contract.
In Denmark, this is implemented as § 20 a of the Consumer Contracts Act (forbrugeraftaleloven), which comes into force on 19 June 2026. Other EU/EEA member states implement the same directive through their own national rules.
Withdrawal must be at least as easy as ordering was. A clearly labelled function, a simple declaration, and confirmation on a durable medium are what the rules ask for — and what this app provides.
It never cancels orders automatically
This is the part worth repeating: the app does not cancel orders, issue refunds, or change fulfilment on its own. It captures the shopper's declaration, confirms receipt, and notifies you. Every actual cancellation and refund is a deliberate action your team takes. That keeps you in control of edge cases — partial orders, items already shipped, exceptions to the right of withdrawal — that automation would get wrong.
Who it's for
Shopify merchants who sell to consumers in the EU/EEA and need to offer the online withdrawal function that the directive requires — especially Danish merchants preparing for § 20 a. It suits stores that want to meet the requirement cleanly while keeping their existing cancellation and refund workflow.
